God Is Not Angry With You

God is not angry with you!  He is perfect Love and His Love for you is faithful!

But somehow your first impression of God may have been that He was mad at you! You saw God as the Judge, watching over you just looking for you to do something wrong so that He could correct (or punish) you? And secondly, if you didn’t do enough to satisfy Him, He would have the right to send you to Hell?

Subsequently, there’s the lie that “something bad” is going to happen to you because you did something wrong – or didn’t do something you should have done!  However, we read in Isaiah 54:15: “If there’s an attack against you, don’t for a moment suppose that I sent it!”

And we often quote verse 17 of that same chapter, “‘No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is your heritage as servants of the Lord, And your vindication is from Me,’ declares the Lord” (Isaiah.54:17). These are not the words of an angry, disappointed or frustrated God!

How is it possible, then, that a God of justice, truth and righteousness can overlook sin? Why would He, a pure and holy God, say He would not be angry, when there is sin in my life? Surely His promises are “conditional”? Well, yes they are! But the “conditions” were satisfied at The Cross!

Here’s the way He did it:  “He sent his own Son in a body – like the bodies we have. And in that Body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving His Son as a sacrifice (on the Cross) for our sins” (Romans.8:3).

You see our loving Heavenly Father had a plan – from the very beginning – that included you and me in fellowship, perfect communion with Him. After all, “He created us for His pleasure” (Revelation.4:11).

“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes. God decided in advance to bring us to Himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave Him great pleasure” (Ephesians.1:4-5).

“Now I swear that I will never again be angry and punish you. Though the mountains may move and the hills disappear, even then My faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken!” (Isaiah.54:9-10).

God’s anger was poured out at Calvary! Sin – All Sin – of all men from beginning to end was imputed (i.e. “put in”) Christ Jesus on the Cross, and God’s justice was satisfied by the Blood sacrifice of His Perfect Son! And His mercy triumphs over judgment!

We, therefore, join the apostle Paul who wrote, “So we praise God for the glorious grace He has poured out on us who belong to His dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that He purchased our freedom with the blood of His Son and forgave our sins” (Ephesians.1:6-7).

God is not angry at you – because He is Love – He made a Way by the Cross that you might be forgiven! What an outrageous life!

We praise God for the Outrageous Grace He has given us in Christ! ~ Shelia Hart Artt
