When It Storms

When It Storms

Where do you go when it storms?

It stormed at our house last night!  There were tornadoes and thunderstorms all over the mid-west – again last evening! What a devastating season this has been! Our prayers and concern are with the families effected by the storms and floods, especially in Oklahoma!

But at our house, as he always does when there’s threatening weather, Boudreaux jumped in our bed, between my husband and me – making sure he was close enough to touch me! Then his little heart stopped pounding and he went right back to sleep – no worries!

(Boudreaux is my husband’s constant companion, our little Shiatsu whose job it is to keep us entertained!)

But think of this: “Where do you go when it storms? Where is your “safe place”?  Do you know the secret of that place of peace, no matter what circumstances surround you?

“Your real life is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians.3:3)

Recently I read a “prophetic word” posted on email –  “Be on the lookout for weapons formed against you!” And it occurred to me that I’m not “on the lookout for trouble” rather I’m keeping my eyes on the One whom “shelters me in the storm;” the One who is my refuge!

The Psalmist wrote:

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. … He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him. For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday” (Psalm.91:1-6).

We who know the Lord are not looking for a place to hide! We live in His Shelter! We are already “hidden in Him!” (For you have died and your real life is hidden with Christ in God”)– Colossians.3:3).

We are not fearful of those “dreaded diseases” that plague our world! He has already promised to protect us, and His promises are faithful and true! Quit looking for the problem – they will come against you! But begin now to live in the place of peace and rest – Hidden with Christ in God!

Boudreaux never worries about where he will go when the storms come! He lives in our house and runs into the “safe place” – right up next to us – when trouble threatens outside! Perhaps we could take a lesson on trusting in the One who is our “place of safety” and has transferred us from the kingdom of darkness into His glorious Light (Colossians.1:13).

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything … Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus” (Philippians.4:6-7).

What peace in knowing that your “real life” is hidden with Christ in God!
